Equipment

You know I'm hiking the Appalachian Trail, walking a thousand or two miles and all that, this is the stuff I've decided to do it with. The links were fucking up my post, only some products have them now

This is the water treatment stuff I'll use. Its chlorine dioxide. Its light weight and effective, but it doesn't filter out particles so I'll be getting used to chunky water. I'm using quart sized plastic bottles to carry water; the problem is water is heavy (8lbs./gallon) so I'll have two gallons maximum on me.

This is my backpack. Its really really light and hopefully it won't ever hold more than 30 pounds. More Info

This is my tent; this is my hammock. Its cool. Theres a rain fly and mosquito netting. Its super-light weight (reoccurring theme) at less than 3 pounds and I won't be sleeping on the cold hard ground

This is my shoe. They're comfy and new. I'm supposed to break them in a bit before I start hiking (we'll see). More Info

Those are the big acquisitions. I've got wool socks and some hiking clothing (e.g. no cotton, flexible, expensive, ugly, utilitarian, etc.). I'm planning my diet (25% Protein; 25% Fat; 50% Carbs; 4000 to 6000 calories per day). I have an aluminum can alcohol stove; a first aid kit in progress; an led light (lightweight, long battery life); and a bunch of other little things. I'm trying to do this trip "ultralight" which means my full pack should be sub 30 pounds.

Don't be discouraged if you want to do part of it with me--most of this stuff is unnecessary for shorter hikes--I'll be at it for three or four months though so I'm trying to be easy on myself.

P.S. As soon as I set up this advertising bar at the bottom of the screen I'll be making money depending on how much its clicked. I'd appreciate it if each of you were to become interested in whatever is being advertised a few thousand times a day. Its kinda like this game that feeds the hungry except my ads aren't games and society isn't benefiting.
